When he woke up, he felt warm and comfortable again, well rested, ready for whatever lay ahead, which, since they were in a three-day jump, wasn't much. Only thing he had on his agenda was building a new wormdrive but paying attention this time. Probably should get a start on that first. Then, just maybe, he might go find one of his passengers and find out more about him. Flynn was mysterious but was he so because he was cagey or because Neko hadn't asked him anything?

If he wanted to make something more of this than a shipboard fling, he should get to know the man.

He shifted his weight to prepare to get out of bed and that's when he realized someone had an arm around his waist. It felt like Flynn, but how had he come into his room?

I let him in, Amanda said. He said he wanted to be with you, and I knew you wanted to be with him.

"Should have asked me first."

You wanted him in. You'd just try to convince yourself you didn't and waste everyone's time. She leapt onto the bed and began washing a paw. Ain't got time for that shit.

Neko would be lying to her and himself if he said he wasn't gratified to find Flynn snuggled into bed with him. He let himself have a comfortable wiggle, his ass up against Flynn's silky warmth, breathing in the flower-tinged scent of him—amazing he didn't spot it right away. If his body responded, he did not have to be a slave to his baser instincts, he told himself, even if it was hard pulling himself away from the comfort of Flynn's arms.

Flynn's arm tightened when Neko tried slip out but only briefly and then let him escape. "Do you have to get up? I'm still sleepy."

"So, sleep, Flynn. I'll try to be quiet."

"Beau, lover. Call me Beau," Flynn said, only his third eye open sleepily. "What are you doing?"

Neko watched his face carefully as he said, "Building a new wormdrive so I can patent it."

"Oh?" Flynn said with no sign of interest, the third eye sliding closed. "Good. When you reach a good stopping point, come back to bed and I'll reward you for your cleverness."

I'm not distracted, Neko told himself, though he was very conscious of Flynn's presence in his room and it took some time to calm his body down. But the nature of the problem that had first driven him to create the wormdrive hit him again and his fingers, more sure this time, duplicated the changes in very little time. In fact, writing down what he was doing and why took twice as long as doing it. He still needed to draw a diagram and explain operations, but, after ninety minutes, he was just thinking he had earned a break.

"Got time for a break, lover?" Flynn asked from the bed.

Neko turned from his worktable and blushed, "Flynn, er, Beau. I do. Just let me put all this away and safe the soldering iron.
